Take your music career to the next level and grow your fanbase with the Fanbase Builder Programme from CMU’s Pathways Into Music Foundation and Help Musicians.
The FREE ten-week professional development programme will provide fifteen early-career artists from Northern Ireland with a series of practical online and in-person workshops that explain how frontline artists go about building a business around their music-making, with practical advice on how to effectively release tracks and grow a fanbase.
Each participating artist will also undertake a fanbase building project during the programme, most likely linked to a new release. With support and advice from a team of music industry experts and a bursary of £500 to spend on the project, artists will identify measurable objectives and a marketing strategy for their campaign, implement that plan and – in the process – grow their fanbase and take their music career to the next level.
The programme will be delivered by Chris Cooke – co-founder and MD of CMU, Phil Nelson – artist manager (Aqualung, Duke Special) and co-founder of The Great Escape, Fiona McAuley – Head of Digital at YMU (Years & Years, Clean Bandit) and Liam Craig – music educator and artist manager (ROE).
Application is now open here and closes 1st June.

Paul Caldwell Set to Release New Hit ‘Everytime’
Irish singer-songwriter Paul Caldwell, will be releasing the third track from his EP ‘Headlines’ on June 25, 2021. The track titled, ‘Every Time’ is an ode to physical and mental changes throughout life. Based on injury and heartbreak. Caldwell wrote this song during a period of uncertainty; a point where time and reflection was abundant
Recovering from an injury gave me lots of space and time to look inward or observe the understanding of a situation. This song is a documentation of the transitional feeling from hurt to acceptance, and eventually happiness. Quite a shift in perspective. – Caldwell
“Everytime” opens as a piano driven ballad, but progresses into a rousing, folk-rock hymn. Caldwell’s vision is to take listeners on an emotional journey ending with the feeling of elation. The track’s second half perfectly captures this feeling with an uplifting, “Springsteen-esq” crescendo. What moving forward after a time of reflection can feel like and how you overcame some of your inner thoughts and fears.
Caldwell’s latest EP, Headlines is deeply emotional and subtly evokes nostalgia, heartache and hope. The EP was produced by Jeff Zipp at Light Machine Records in Vancouver. The title track, “Headlines” was released on October 2020, followed by the second track, “Monday”. Between the two tracks, they have received notable radio play in Canada and Ireland and have amassed over 40,000 streams. Paul was recently voted into the Top 100 of the coveted CBC Searchlight competition, for his song “Headlines.”
