Since 1962 we have been privileged to have had Rathmore House in Larne as our training centre and for the past 20 years our administration headquarters.
Over the years Rathmore served us well; there are many fond memories, particularly of training courses, but with changing requirements, within BB and elsewhere, and an aging building which required increasing expenditure for maintenance, it is time to move on.
After extensive searching, and careful consideration Northern Ireland District has purchased the property previously known as Newport Primary School, in Culcavy, near Lisburn, a central location with reasonable access to most parts of Northern Ireland. We believe it has the potential to provide accommodation for both our Administration HQ and a very acceptable training centre. It is our vision that the work done at Newport will be the stimulus for many leaders to open new doors for many generations of Boys and Young Men.
Three years after launching our Opening New Doors appeal we are about to close it by MAKING IT HOME on a 35 mile sponsored walk from our former Headquarters Rathmore House in Larne to our new home at Newport, Culcavy, just outside Hillsborough on Saturday 23 June 2018.
NI District Vice-President Trevor McCormick and District Trustee Drew Buchanan are encouraging many others to join them for part or all of the 35 mile route.
Having initially set a £400,000 fundraising target for Newport back in 2014, at the start of our fundraising journey, we are delighted to say the final target for our sponsored walk is only £7,000 and once raised this will conclude our Opening New Doors Appeal.
Drew Buchanan said “ We are delighted to get to this stage that if we raised £7000 from the sponsored walk we will be debt free at the start of a new session”
He further stated that “I am asking all former and present leaders to donate” to donate visit here.
