Disney.Pixar’s INCREDIBLES 2 opened in Ireland to rave reviews and has been welcomed by audiences and families across the nation as the film took the Irish box office crown this weekend with a 3 day total of over €1.1M.
Fourteen years since The Incredibles first delighted audiences, the superhero sequel about the adventures of the Parr family by returning director Brad Bird has proved the wait was worth it as the film was the number one choice for cinema-goers this weekend.
INCREDIBLES 2 is Disney.Pixar’s second biggest opening weekend ever for an animated movie in Ireland placed behind only Toy Story 3.
INCREDIBLES 2 is now the highest-grossing animated film of all time in the US, having surpassed the $520m mark domestically going in to this weekend and grossing a spectacular $812M globally to date in its first five weeks.
Trish Long, General Manager & Vice President of The Walt Disney Company in Ireland said: “We are thrilled that INCREDIBLES 2 has topped the Irish box office. Together with breaking the record to become the biggest animated film of all time in the US, this is a remarkable achievement for director Brad Bird and the amazing team at Pixar. Critics and audiences alike have celebrated the return of the Parr Family as the extraordinary team of superheroes conquer the box office. What better way to make this amazing summer even more Incredible than offering cinema goers such a brilliant film to enjoy throughout the holidays”
The film has received rave reviews from film critics and fans ahead of its Irish opening, with a 93% certified fresh Rotten Tomatoes score.
The Irish Times – “As brilliant as the original – better in parts”
Movies.ie – “A super sequel that is bolder, faster and more imaginative than its predecessor”
Buzz.ie – “everyone’s favourite super family is back and they are still, forgive the pun, incredible”
Danann (Aged 4) – Newstalk – “180 Stars”
Everyone’s favourite family of superheroes is back with INCREDIBLES 2 – but this time Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is in the spotlight, leaving Bob (voice of Craig T.Nelson) and home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell) and Dash (voice of Huck Milner) to navigate the day-to-day heroics if “normal life”. It’s a tough transition for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby Jack-Jacks’s emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatched a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone (voice of Samuel L.Jackson) must find a way to work together again which is easier said than done, even when they’re all Incredible.
