BELFAST City Blues Festival has announced that local singer Kaz Hawkins will play a special set as part of its growing line-up.
Kaz, who has garnered attention and plaudits for her wonderful, soul-laden voice, will play a special ‘Sunday Lunch’ slot at the Black Box on July 1.
In a brand new show she’ll be performing with Sam York on piano – who has played with luminaries such as Tom Jones, Ed Sheeran and Jessie J – and using her music to address mental health issues in Northern Ireland.
Blues Act Of The Year
Festival director, Seamus O’Neill, said he was delighted that Kaz has joined the line-up especially after her recent UK Blues Award for Blues Act Of The Year, Northern Ireland.
“Kaz has a unique talent that transcends description,” he said.
“Her voice and her passion are an experience not to be missed. Add in to that her work to support mental health and it a show now to be missed.”
Kaz added: “I’m so excited to bring my new show to Belfast City Blues Festival on such a milestone anniversary, I feel we have both grown and evolved together over the years. I’ve had amazing support from Seamus O’Neill who puts his heart and soul into keeping the blues alive, he is a true believer in supporting the artist 100% and I’m so thankful for his friendship through the festival”
“I can’t wait to return to a festival that has supported my career so much, it’s that yearly meeting of my blues family in Belfast, this is a brand new show taking people through my life and the songs that helped me come out the other end. I take people back to the days of old blues and gospel with some authentic covers too”
Kaz is an ambassador for Aware NI and plans to continue supporting and working to increase awareness of mental health.
